WE would like to say we have now cycled all seasons in Fujian – except that Fujian farmers divide the year into 24 seasons – each one about two weeks long. With the moon rising to the summer solstice – XiaZhi （夏至） the cycling was warm but with delicious cool breezes and a few downfalls – which we were too far from the tulou to escape. But it was beautiful – if you are into lime green turning to yellow – colours remnicent of a pine lime splice ice-cream on a sultry summer day. On the Hakka side of the great tulou divide – the farmers were harvesting Tobacco – a lucrative crop in olden days from which Hakka clans raised the cash to extend and embelish Tulou buildings such as Zheng Cheng – Prince of Tulou’s in the village we stay on night one.
