We get a lot of enquiries asking if our trips are suitable for children.
Kids at 12 are often more fit than adults at thirty but don’t appreciate uphills. So we suggest the following starter rides for families in this order.
Guangdong
Yangshuo
Fujian
Bajiaozhai
The first one is flat.
Yangshuo can easily be adapted to flat.
Fujian is super fun with big Hakka roundhouses that will enthral your children. We stay in two of these medieval fortresses on our Fujian ride.
Bajiaozhai has lost of hills but quiet roads, and is surprisingly well suited to families with slightly older kids who can handle some hills.
I think how lucky I was to grow up in the suburbs riding bikes around the streets. Its hard to imagine not having the confidence to explore the world by bike. With this thought in mind, Bike Aways will be developing a bike touring introduction trip for families with kids in Yangshuo. It will start with a workshop on having fun on your bike, staying safe on your bike, and learning techniques to ride with greater ease and confidence.
Here are a few photos from a family bike trip to the Fujian Tulou, which was great fun to run.
