In these days of daily protests, landing in Hong Kong Airport is a bit fraught as to how and when you’ll get into the city.
Hong Kong Express is undoubtedly the fastest way – but quite often now they are not letting people get on or off in Tsing Yi or Kowloon, which is a pain for those transferring to trains going up to China via the West Kowloon Rail link.
There is however a handy back door into China on the new Hong Kong Macau Zhuhai Bridge which c Rosses forty kilometres of ocean from a new immigration point, just ten minutes drive in a shuttle bus from Hong Kong airport.
This is what you do.
First – go down stairs towards the city flyer busses – which is down the right ramp as you walk out of the arrivals hall.
Hook back on yourself at the bottom of the ramp to the B4 shuttle bus.
It has a green sign. This bus costs 5 or 8 dollars by memory and takes about ten – fifteen minutes to take you to the bridge.
This border has been very very quiet and super quick to pass through.
Pass immigration and and then purchase a ticket (HKD65) for the shuttle bus to Zhuhai.
Buses depart every ten minutes or so and take forty minutes to cross the bay.
You’ll veer left for Zhu Hai.
Get out of your bus, go in and up the escalator and cross through Chinese immigration. As you walk out of the hall – you’ll be at the second level, on a bridge, with escalators on the left going down to buses. you’ll see a Starbucks on your right. Take the middle escalator ( second on your left I think and not quite as far along as starbucks). If you’ve taken the correct escalator there will be a bus there and ticket stand where you can buy a ten yuan ticket for Gongbei – the name of the Zhu Hai Macau border area and train station.
Ride the bus right to the end. Its about tej minutes. It will let you off at Gongbei which is a small open air bus station right in front of Zhuhai train station.
I haven’t been inside this station, but usually there’s a sign pointing to tickets – outside of the building. Go there , show them you ticket booking number, pick up tickets and then go into the station and wait for your train.
Make sure you leave enough time for queues buying tickets and then going through train station security.
Good luck. Its easier than this sounds.
